Getting Laid in McLean

You can top these homemade artisan sourdough bagels with any of your favorite jams or vegetables. Because they are made with sourdough starter, they are chewy and have a sour taste.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Toppings poppy seeds, sesame seeds, everything bagel seasoning, etc

Instructions:

Put the active sourdough starter and warm water in a large mixing bowl

Mix the salt and bread flour together in the bowl until a dough forms

For about 10 minutes, knead the dough on a floured surface until it gets smooth and springy

To make the dough double in size, put it in a bowl that has been greased and cover it with a damp cloth

Let it rise at room temperature for 4 to 6 hours

Set your oven to 425F 220C and add the honey and olive oil to a large pot of water

Bring the water to a boil

Cut the dough into 8 equal pieces, and then use your hands to shape them into bagels

In a pan of water mixed with honey and olive oil, boil each bagel for one to two minutes on each side

Put the boiled bagels on a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper

Top them with any of the ingredients you want

After the oven is hot, bake the bagels for 20 to 25 minutes, or until they turn golden brown

Set the bagels on a wire rack to cool down before you serve them
